COVER LETTER

Black and Veatch Civil Engineering Intership

To whom it may concern,

I was very impressed to discover that Black and Veatch received the Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment and Award Scheme (CEEQUAL) Excellent Whole Project Award in 2013.  I noticed this particular award because of my desire to become civil engineer, but I was also amazed at the numerous awards received around the globe by Black and Veatch.  Such a prominent engineering company is exactly the kind of environment I want to contribute to and learn from early on in my civil engineering career.  I would love to be considered for the civil engineering intern position to be able to contribute my strong work ethic and interpersonal skills to such a respected company.

I am highly motivated when it comes to my academic career which pushes me to try and stay ahead of the crowd whenever possible.  In high school, I took many honors and AP classes so that when I came into college I already had sophomore standing.  This gave me a unique advantage having most of my prerequisite classes out of the way, allowing me to dive into some of the core civil engineering and upper level math classes.   For example, this term I am taking a transportation class which is challenging me to come up with practical solutions to real world problems dealing with cities and road systems.  Having so many credits my first year of college allowed me to take the fall semester off of my second year to complete a six month co-op program with Soil and Material Engineers.

During my co-op, I learned many valuable lessons in the field.  I developed my oral and written communication skills when it came to writing reports and speaking with clients.  I also learned how to interpret construction plans and specs.  Throughout the six month program, I became more comfortable when it came to problem solving and conflict resolution.  Being the only representative of the company out on a construction site, when a problem arose I became accustomed to coming up with quick solutions that the contractors were willing to work with me on, in order to get the job done quickly and correctly.

I would be very interested to be able to come and speak personally with you to discuss what I have to offer Black and Veatch as a civil engineering intern.  If you agree, please call me at (734)657-1999.

Sincerely,

Vittoria Veltri
